19th Annual Dinner Concert & Fundraiser “Festival in the Park”

May 20, 2023, from 4-7 pm

Attention all Rogers Families! Saturday, May 20th is the annual Rogers Music Concert and Fundraiser. Please click on the image to enlarge, and scan the QR codes to preorder tickets, taco plates, volunteer, or donate an item for the Auction.  Pre-orders from Tacos Chihuahua must be made by tomorrow.

Performances will run throughout the afternoon. Feel free to bring your own lawn chair. Families can purchase food in advance or bring their own  food.


CareerDay2023

Rogers Career Day is on Tuesday, May 23, Periods 2 through 4 (9 am to 12 pm). Students will receive a survey and be assigned to 3 career presenters aligned with their interests. Volunteers are  needed to set up and to help monitor the grade-level presentations.  Sign up here to help!


The Spring Book Fair is back and needs volunteer help!  The Spring Book Fair is March 22-26 in the Library.  Our awesome librarian, Ms. Stuart, needs help setting up the Book Fair on Friday, May 19th and then help staffing the Book Fair during the week.  Shifts last two hours.  If you can help, please sign up here.


LAST PTA ASSOCIATION MEETING AND END-OF-YEAR CELEBRATION

Our last Association meeting of the school year will take place on Wednesday, May 24 in the Multipurpose Room at 6:30 p.m. Come to help celebrate our wonderful volunteers, the Teacher of the Year, and our student Jeopardy winners and Reflections finalists with cookies, reflect on this year and plan for next year, and take care of regular PTA business.

Teacher & Staff Appreciation Donations.  We would like to continue to treat our amazing staff and teachers with drinks and snacks for the remaining Mondays in May.  Click here to donate and bring your donation by the Rogers Front Office!

8th Grade Party.  The Rogers PTA has set aside funding to pay for the rental of CSULB, but more donations are needed to make this a celebration for our 8th graders to remember.  Our goal is for 20 more Rogers families to donate $25 by Monday, May 22nd.   If you haven’t donated yet, please click here to donate online, or send in your $25, cash or check donation (payable to Rogers PTA), to the Rogers Front Office.

COMING EVENTS

Rogers Career Day is coming soon and we need your help!  Rogers Career Day is on Tuesday, May 23, Periods 2 through 4 (9am to 12pm). We have a great line up of 20 speakers coming to educate our Rogers students on different career paths!CareerDay2023

To make it work, we need a few people to help with Career Day preparations (which can be done at home) and 20 VIPS on Career Day, May 23 (to work with students and speakers)!  Sign up here to help!  


Attention 8th Grade Families!   The 8th Grade Party at CSULB is right around the corner, on June 14! Come to the next planning meeting at 9 am on Friday, May 12 in the Multipurpose Room (or email Veronica Ramirez, our 8th Grade committee chair) to learn what is being planned!  If you want to help with decorations, student check-in, or chaperoning, please sign up here and watch this space for more info.

A suggested donation of $25 per 8th Grade student is requested to cover the costs of the event for ALL 8th graders!  A BIG thank you to the 50+ families who have donated so far!

REMINDERS

SBAC Testing.  SBAC testing continues next week, Tuesday through Thursday!  Monday will be a make-up day for those students who have not finished their ELA SBAC. Tips for success:  please continue to ensure your child is well-rested and eats a good breakfast before school. The Rogers Cafeteria is open for breakfast at 7:30am.

Teacher & Staff Appreciation Donations.  All this week, Rogers PTA and Student Council celebrated our amazing Rogers teachers and staff.  PTA hosted a breakfast of acai bowls and breakfast burritos on Monday, a fancy coffee cart on Tuesday, lunch from George’s Greek Cafe on Wednesday and a taco cart lunch Friday.

 ROGERS RECAPS!

Parents’ Night Out Party! What a great turnout we had at the Parents’ Night Out last weekend! It was super fun to watch the Poker Tournament heat up, and then cool off outside with some rocking karaoke and photo booth fun. The Silent Auction was a hit, and we want to thank all our bidders and winners for supporting our kiddos. We saw old friends come together and new friends made – our Rogers community is awesome and many thanks to all who joined in the fun!!

Star Wars Movie + Taco Night.  The Force was strong in Mustang Park Thursday night as Rogers students and families enjoyed yummy tacos while watching Star Wars Episode IV:  A New Hope.  Lightsaber battles, picnics and fun times with family and friends made this a night to remember.  Watch this space for information on next year’s Movie Nights!

ROGERS TEACHER OF THE YEAR NOMINATIONS DUE MARCH 31st! 

Rogers students and parents, this is your last chance to nominate one (or more) of our amazing Rogers teachers for 2023 Teacher of the Year!

The Long Beach Council PTA’s annual Teacher of the Year program honors an outstanding teacher from  LBUSD. Nominate a Rogers teacher by filling out the form here! Nominations are due March 31st!


OPERATION EASTER BASKET DONATIONS DUE MARCH 31st!

Rogers will be joining forces with Justin Rudd to fill Easter baskets for children of families in need. This is Rogers’ 13th year participating in this event and Rogers is excited to make a difference in our community. Rogers is collecting for ages 0-16.  If you can help Rogers spread some Spring cheer, the following items would be appreciated:

  • Hygiene Items:  (preferably full-sized) soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, bubble bath,  toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, mouthwash, nail polish, nail file, hand sanitizer, hair accessories, face wash, razors, shaving cream, hair ties, loofa, diapers, baby shampoo, baby powder, baby bottles, hair brushes
  • New Toys:  Cars, balls (all sports), small Lego sets, playing cards, yo-yos, slinky, Easter toys, jump ropes, small stuffed animals, plastic baseball bat sets
  • New School Supplies:  Pens, pencils, pencil sharpeners, boxes of crayons, markers, colored pencils, stamps with ink pads, crossword puzzles books, drawing pads, notebook paper, calculators, rulers, erasers, journals, chalk, pencil bag, highlighters, Post-It notes, WhiteOut, glue, paint sets

45KMUSTANG DRIVE UPDATE!   

With our Mustang Drive corporate sponsorships and the help of our Rogers families, we raised a little over $45K!!  Thank you to each and every one of you for the time and effort you put into this to make it such a huge success!!

This week, we pulled names for all our Red Ticket and Gold Ticket prizes. All of the students who won something will get a slip from their 1st period teacher next Monday, March 20 to redeem at lunch time on Tuesday, March 21 (weather permitting).


JeopardyCongratulations!   We are so proud of our Mustangs who participated in the preliminary round, the semifinals and the championship!  Emmit (6th), Matthew (7th), and Claire (8th) did an excellent job getting to the Championships and our final Jeopardy winner was…Emmit

  • Next PTA Association Meeting   The PTA Association meeting scheduled for March 23 has been moved to March 30 to accommodate the requirement that the slate be posted for a minimum number of days before the elections.  We will see you at the Multipurpose Room at 6:30 pm!

  • SAVE THE DATE!   Rogers PTA is planning a fun parent’s night out at the Long Beach Yacht Club on Saturday, April 29 from 6 pm – 11 pm. This inaugural event will feature a poker tournament, a silent auction, dinner, drinks, karaoke and a selfie booth!

In the fall, Delaney entered her dance piece in the 2022 Reflections Program.

This past week, Delaney Kaiser was honored at the 33rd District PTA Reception. She advanced to the 33rd District level of competition and received a 3rd place award for Dance Choreography.  Only 9 students from LBUSD placed 1st-3rd in the 33rd District competition.  Thank you for representing Rogers with your creativity and talent!

This month, our fundraising program is at Taco Shore in Long Beach.  Bring in the flyer (click to print) or show a digital version on your phone, every Wednesday and Thursday in March, and Rogers PTA will receive 20% back!
Purchases include dine-in, take out, and catering orders.   Third-party vendor orders will not qualify.

GREAT JOB MUSTANGS!  Today was our Mustang Drive Celebration Event!  Thanks to all the volunteers and Rogers staff who made this such a fun day for our Rogers students.  BIG THANKS also to everyone who helped Rogers PTA raise over $40,000 for Rogers (and counting)! PTA News – Friday, 2/24/23

A162FCDC-6C96-40C3-9AFD-F5639354CDF8MUSTANGS!  We are entering the last 7 days of our fundraiser and we have some important reminders to read through.

Our students are extremely excited about the last 3 Golden Ticket Prizes: an E-bike, a VR Headset and a Macbook, which will be added to the drawing only when we hit our targets.  We are just short of reaching the $30,000 level, which puts an E-Bike to the drawing — please contribute now!

We need everyone to help get those donations in!    It’s not too late so share the link on Facebook, via text or via Pledgestar. For instructions on how to register, click here.  

Donations can also be turned into the office which will count towards your student’s fundraising totals.  ALL DONATIONS must be turned in no later than next Thursday, March 2 at noon.

VectorTo ensure the success of our Mustang Drive Celebration Day next Friday, March 3, we also need Rogers VIPs to sign up.  Your student will be participating in this fun-filled event during their PE period.   Two-hour slots are available, including early morning and prior to dismissal.  You do not need to volunteer the entire day.  Click here to sign up.

Finally, we have extended the deadline to turn in permission slips for the Celebration Day. Students who wish to participate must turn in their permission slips by Tuesday, February 28 to their PE teacher. They will not want to miss this event.  Permission slips are found here.

Also, a Special Association Meeting has been called for Tuesday, February 28, via Zoom at 8:15 am. Watch for an email from Mr. Chu with the Zoom log in information or contact president@rogersmiddleschoolpta.com.  This is a notice to all our PTA members that the meeting will only address the following business transactions: the business would be to approve holding a Poker Night event, approve related contracts, amend the PTA budget as needed, and approve other business related to the Poker Night event.

In conjunction with the City of Long Beach, LBUSD is conducting Social Media Safety trainings the 3rd Saturday of each month.

The first training, “Internet Safety 101” will be held on March 18 from 9:30 am to 11:30 am and will cover parental controls, child-appropriate content on Youtube and childproofing your internet at home.
