TCB (Taking Care of Business)

TCBTaking Care of Business happens this year Tuesday August 22nd (8th Grade), Wednesday 23 August (7th Grade), and Thursday 24 August (6th Grade) at Rogers Middle School.  What is it?  It’s a chance for all students to get PE Clothes and Spiritware, take photos with family and friends, get class schedules for the upcoming year, and grab needed textbooks.

Field Day Donations and Volunteers Needed!  

Friday, June 2nd is our final Rogers ASB Field Day of the school year, from 1:30 pm to 2:40 pm and we need some VIPs and donations!  Click here to donate or volunteer!

Donations needed (deliver by 2 pm, Thursday, June 1st to the Rogers Front Office):

  • 4 dozen bakery or grocery store-baked cupcakes
  • 20 cans of whipped cream
  • 3 bags of small oranges (cuties)
  • 15 bags of wrapped candy
  • 2 sets of 50 paper plates

Volunteers are needed to help with games and snack sales from 1:30 pm to 2:40 pm.  Volunteers must be registered VIPS.

Rogers Recap: Career Day!

Rogers welcomed 29 speakers to Mustang Park on Tuesday, May 23 for Career Day! Students were matched with three speakers based on their interests and learned about potential career paths in a job-fair-like set up.  6th, 7th and 8th graders were all able to enjoy this great event.

A Google Form was sent by Principal Chu via email.  You must fill it out again to have your child released on Wednesday.  They will receive a wristband during their first period ONLY if the Google Form is filled out or if you fill one out in the Front Office prior to Wednesday.d

George’s Greek Cafe will donate back to Rogers for purchases of meals or gift cards, throughout May 24th.

We are pleased to announce that the Rogers Middle School PTA Teacher of the Year award goes to Mr. Brian Tom, our beloved 6th grade Science Teacher.  Please attend our LAST PTA ASSOCIATION MEETING AND END-OF-YEAR CELEBRATION to help celebrate him, our wonderful volunteers, our student Jeopardy winners and Reflections finalists.

19th Annual Dinner Concert & Fundraiser “Festival in the Park”

May 20, 2023, from 4-7 pm

Attention all Rogers Families! Saturday, May 20th is the annual Rogers Music Concert and Fundraiser. Please click on the image to enlarge, and scan the QR codes to preorder tickets, taco plates, volunteer, or donate an item for the Auction.  Pre-orders from Tacos Chihuahua must be made by tomorrow.

Performances will run throughout the afternoon. Feel free to bring your own lawn chair. Families can purchase food in advance or bring their own  food.

Rogers Career Day is on Tuesday, May 23, Periods 2 through 4 (9 am to 12 pm). Students will receive a survey and be assigned to 3 career presenters aligned with their interests. Volunteers are  needed to set up and to help monitor the grade-level presentations.  Sign up here to help!

Rogers Career Day is coming soon and we need your help!  Rogers Career Day is on Tuesday, May 23, Periods 2 through 4 (9am to 12pm). We have a great line up of 20 speakers coming to educate our Rogers students on different career paths!CareerDay2023

To make it work, we need a few people to help with Career Day preparations (which can be done at home) and 20 VIPS on Career Day, May 23 (to work with students and speakers)!  Sign up here to help!  


Attention 8th Grade Families!   The 8th Grade Party at CSULB is right around the corner, on June 14! Come to the next planning meeting at 9 am on Friday, May 12 in the Multipurpose Room (or email Veronica Ramirez, our 8th Grade committee chair) to learn what is being planned!  If you want to help with decorations, student check-in, or chaperoning, please sign up here and watch this space for more info.

REMINDERS

SBAC Testing.  SBAC testing continues next week, Tuesday through Thursday!  Monday will be a make-up day for those students who have not finished their ELA SBAC. Tips for success:  please continue to ensure your child is well-rested and eats a good breakfast before school. The Rogers Cafeteria is open for breakfast at 7:30am.

Teacher & Staff Appreciation Donations.  All this week, Rogers PTA and Student Council celebrated our amazing Rogers teachers and staff.  PTA hosted a breakfast of acai bowls and breakfast burritos on Monday, a fancy coffee cart on Tuesday, lunch from George’s Greek Cafe on Wednesday and a taco cart lunch Friday.

 ROGERS RECAPS!

Parents’ Night Out Party! What a great turnout we had at the Parents’ Night Out last weekend! It was super fun to watch the Poker Tournament heat up, and then cool off outside with some rocking karaoke and photo booth fun. The Silent Auction was a hit, and we want to thank all our bidders and winners for supporting our kiddos. We saw old friends come together and new friends made – our Rogers community is awesome and many thanks to all who joined in the fun!!

Star Wars Movie + Taco Night.  The Force was strong in Mustang Park Thursday night as Rogers students and families enjoyed yummy tacos while watching Star Wars Episode IV:  A New Hope.  Lightsaber battles, picnics and fun times with family and friends made this a night to remember.  Watch this space for information on next year’s Movie Nights!

PTA Association Meeting and Elections –  RESCHEDULED to Thursday, April 27 from 6:30pm – 7:30pm in the Multipurpose Room.  At this meeting, the PTA will elect the 2023-24 PTA Board, approve funding and budget requests and contracts, discuss Career Day, 8th Grade Party and End of Year activities, Movie Night, Staffr Appreciation Week activities, and the Parent-Palooza Poker Night Out, and get updates from Mr. Chu. Please mark the new date on your calendar! Come mix, minge and have a snack!

VP of Membership Needed for 2023-24 Board!   Are you looking for a way to become more involved? Consider leading the PTA’s membership efforts and help recruit new members with fun incentives. REMINDERS

  • Open House – Wednesday, March 29 from 5:30pm – 7pm. Doors open at 5pm and the Joe Jost’s food cart will be serving meals for purchase. Classroom visits start at 5:30pm. Don’t forget that there will be an early dismissal on Wednesday at 1:10pm.

  • 8th Grade Party Donations Needed!  Planning for the 8th Grade Party at CSULB is underway! Watch your student’s backpack next week for more information! What we can plan for the party will be driven by available funding.   • Last Chance for 8th Grade Parents to Buy Yearbook Ads.  8th Grade parents, this is the last week to buy a quarter-page ad in the Rogers yearbook for your promoting 8th Grader. Ads cost $25 and can be purchased on the Rogers Webstore here. Orders and artwork are due as soon as possible but no later than March 31st. Hurry, only 15 more spots are available!

ROGERS TEACHER OF THE YEAR NOMINATIONS DUE MARCH 31st! 

Rogers students and parents, this is your last chance to nominate one (or more) of our amazing Rogers teachers for 2023 Teacher of the Year!

The Long Beach Council PTA’s annual Teacher of the Year program honors an outstanding teacher from  LBUSD. Nominate a Rogers teacher by filling out the form here! Nominations are due March 31st!


OPERATION EASTER BASKET DONATIONS DUE MARCH 31st!

Rogers will be joining forces with Justin Rudd to fill Easter baskets for children of families in need. This is Rogers’ 13th year participating in this event and Rogers is excited to make a difference in our community. Rogers is collecting for ages 0-16.  If you can help Rogers spread some Spring cheer, the following items would be appreciated:

  • Hygiene Items:  (preferably full-sized) soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, bubble bath,  toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, mouthwash, nail polish, nail file, hand sanitizer, hair accessories, face wash, razors, shaving cream, hair ties, loofa, diapers, baby shampoo, baby powder, baby bottles, hair brushes
  • New Toys:  Cars, balls (all sports), small Lego sets, playing cards, yo-yos, slinky, Easter toys, jump ropes, small stuffed animals, plastic baseball bat sets
  • New School Supplies:  Pens, pencils, pencil sharpeners, boxes of crayons, markers, colored pencils, stamps with ink pads, crossword puzzles books, drawing pads, notebook paper, calculators, rulers, erasers, journals, chalk, pencil bag, highlighters, Post-It notes, WhiteOut, glue, paint sets
  • Food:  Sealed small-sized candy, full-sized candy bars, individually wrapped snack packs, Pez candy holders and refills
