PTA News

Friday 10 November

Happy Veteran’s day, everybody. We celebrate all who’ve served to protect our revered democracy, and to the multitudes who’ve given their lives for our country. We are all indebted.

Mustang Drive kicked off this week with an assembly from Step it Up. After only three days, we’re already half way to our goal of raising $60,000 for the school and the PTA. If you haven’t already registered your student for the drive, you can do so here. The drive will continue through thanksgiving, so keep sending out those emails. Students can continue to win prizes by hitting milestones of giving. If we meet our goal, we’ll reward everyone with a BMX show for the entire school early next year. And yesterday, the board decided to give everyone a Mustang Drive T-Shirt, so nobody feels left out.

Rogers is rebooting the annual PE Turkey Trot on Thursday, 16th November, and students will run a loop around the school. The PTA has given turkeys and pies to the PE staff to hand out to winners and top finishers. We’re looking for volunteers – sign up here if you’re interested in joining this fun little jaunt.

Noble Bird returns in our dining for dollars program on Saturday, November 18th. Grab some of their fabulous foul and awesome sides to support the school.

PTA News – Friday 3 November

Mustang Drive

It’s our Annual Mustang Drive Next week! On Tuesday, we’ll have assemblies to kick off our drive. Look for the packets students will be bringing home with them – you’ll want to jump right on the Step it Up campaign Tuesday night so your student can qualify for prize give-aways the next day at lunch. All you’ll need to do is send out ten emails to family and friends, and your little ones will qualify for the prizes. Easy!

Dining For Dollars

If you’re reading this on Friday the 3rd, there’s still time to trot out to Noble Bird for a bite.

On Wednesday November 8th, Dining for Dollars moves to Naples island for local favorite KC Branaghan’s. Inspired Irish food and a healthy selection of craft beers are to be had. Make sure to tell your server you’re coming for Rogers.

Pace & CIC Info Night

Also on Wednesday November 8th there will be an info night about Poly’s PACE & CIC programs hosted by parent volunteers. If you’re an 8th grade parent interested in researching high school, this would be a good event to attend.

PTA News – Friday 27 October

Halloween Dress up Day

Halloween Dress up day – Tuesday the 31st is Halloween Dress up day. Students are permitted to wear their costumes or halloween shirt to school, but all must be practical about it – no props or weapons, no masks or face paint, and they must be able to sit comfortably in a desk. Think functional. Lunch will be filled with Spooky Tunes courtesy of band and orchestra director Mrs. Palmer.

6th Grade Pali Trip

Wednesday is the 6th grade trip to Pali institute. Wish I was going!

Dining for Dollars

Friday 3 November is local favorite Chicken joint Noble Bird. Come support Rogers and Noble Bird at their 2nd & PCH location and enjoy some good eats!

Mustang Drive Upcoming

Our Mustang Drive kicks off Tuesday, November 7th with an assembly from Step it Up! This year is different, and Step It Up! is leading the charge. We’re compressing the time period this year so be ready to jump online that evening to activate the campaign. Mustang Drive Day will be held during school the morning of December 8th. We’re looking for volunteers for Lunchtime (11:45 – 1:00) on Wednesday November 8th & Thursday November 9th, and then for Mustang Drive Day on Friday the 8th of December. Sign up here to volunteer.

Happy Weekend, everybody!

PTA News – Friday 20 October

We’re speeding along towards the holiday season, and Fall is upon us. As the days get shorter and we shrink to Winter Solstice, we start to steer our thoughts to the next bedecked holiday.

Association Meeting

Our next PTA association meeting is next week on Tuesday the 24th October, at 6:30 pm in the Multipurpose room. Free beer will be provided (just kidding). So no, there won’t be free beer, but we do promise a reward for those who do make it out.

Dining for Dollars

Our next installment of our Dining for Dollars program is Domenico’s, one of our favorite local restaurants. Come to the 5339 E 2nd street location and support Rogers with some awesome Italian food.

Reflections

Entries to the Annual Reflections contest are now being accepted. Please submit all submissions to president@rogersmiddleschoolpta.com. Final Entries due by Wednesday November 1st. For more information, click here.

PTA News – Friday 13 October

The Fall is a festive time, and festivities mean multiple chances to help out at school. If you’ve got the yen to help out at school, there’s the ASB field Day coming up, the Turkey Trot before Thanksgiving, and our annual Mustang Drive.

As a reminder, anybody who wants to give time during school hours needs to be LBUSD certified VIP. If you’re not one already and you’d like to become one, you can apply here. It’s easy to do, and your certification will last for the duration of your time at Rogers.

Dining For Dollars

Dining for Dollars continues in October with California Pizza Kitchen on Monday, 16 October. Can you say PIZZA? And there’s all those awesome salads, too. Click here for the flyer. You can show a digital version at the restaurant – no need to print anything up!

ASB (Student Council) Field Day

ASB will hold a field day on Friday the 27th from 1:45 – 2:30. Highjinks will ensue. To sign up to help out, click here.

We continue to make upgrades to our Website. Check out the new calendar on the splash page. We’ll keep working on it throughout the year.

Happy Friday, everyone!

Christo Brock, PTA President

  • Visual Arts

All Reflections materials are available on the California State Reflections page.  All entries are due November 1st.

The PTA is looking for parent volunteers to assist with the program, including a chair of the program.  Anyone interested should fill out the Signup Genius form.  If you’re interesting in chairing this program, please contact me at president@rogersmiddleschoolpta.com.

Looking forward

PTA News – Friday 29 September

FIRST PTA ASSOCIATION MEETING RECAP

We held our first Association meeting last night in the auditorium after Back to School Night to great affect.  While we had a good deal of business to get through, we managed to approve these big items:

  1. The Budget – the proposed budget for the 2023-2024 school year was approved by membership.  Highlights include:
    • an allocation of $10k for recreational aids.  This used to be in the budget before covid, and we’re returning this line item to give additional support to teachers and administration.
    • Approval of $1k for a Public Address system for the school
    • A reduction of $12k for field trips, as we won’t be funding transportation for all three grades (as we did last year).  This year, we’ll only fund 6th grade buses and smaller trips for 7th & 8th grades
  2. Mustang Drive – The association approved the employ of Step It Up, an outfit who will handle all the fundraising responsibilities.  They believe they’ll be able to raise more than the $28k we netted last year.  We’ll look to work with them to customize their “Day of Awesomeness” to model the Mustang Drive Day we organized last year.
  3. Logowear – the association voted on the new logo design for pull over hoodies and authorized outlay for a new item – branded sweat pants.

Dining for Dollars

Dining for Dollars starts next week with Domenico’s Restaurant on Tuesday the 3rd of October, with another night of Rogers Dining on the Tuesday the 24th of October.

On Monday the 16th, California Pizza Kitchen will have a Dining for Dollars night at 5339 2nd St, Long Beach, CA 90803. If you’re dining at these fine establishments – and you should, cause it’s a good meal for a good cause – please let restaurants  know you’re dining for Rogers so they can keep track.

Membership Drive

We’re in the middle of our membership drive, and we’re aiming for 100% participation from the school.  If you haven’t already joined the PTA, please join.  There’s no better value for your $10.

From all of us at the PTA, thank you for joining our efforts.

Sincerely,

Christo Brock, Rogers Middle School PTA Presiden

Friday, September 21

This is the first newsletter of the year from Rogers Middle School’s Parent/Teacher Association (the PTA).  We’re a group of committed students, parents, and teachers coming together to create a richer educational experience for all.  Last year we contributed more than $144,000 to school activities & programs, support for our teachers & staff, and equipment.  This year, we’re looking to add recreation aids to help out during school hours.

If you haven’t already joined, please consider becoming a member here.  It’s only $10 for the year, and membership gives you a voice in the activities and programs of the PTA.

Dining for Dollars

Dining for Dollars is an easy way to support both the PTA and our community: Dine at a local restaurant, and the restaurant gives a portion of your bill back to the PTA.  Have a great meal and support the PTA at the same time!  What could be more satisfying?  The first local eatery is a favorite – Domenico’s Italian Restaurant on 2nd Street. Mustang families can earn money back from their school by dining between 11:30 am – 9 pm and bringing a digital or printed version of this flyer.  Click here for the flyer.

There are two opportunities to Dine out at Domenico’s: Tuesday 3 October and Tuesday 24 October.

Stay tuned for for more dining opportunities throughout the year.
